In a little less than three weeks since announcing our Piece of the Puzzle Fundraiser, our family has received contributions from friends, family, our church, online friends, and near strangers and have been blessed to receive over $1,400 so far towards our $5,000 goal. Remember, every gift is matched from now through Christmas. Thank you!
Just a brief update today on where we are in the process. Erica and I went and had fingerprints taken for background checks through the state of New Mexico. These checks are for Children Youth and Family clearances that there have not ever been any allegations of wrong-doing by either of us in relation to kids. The fingerprints usually take 2-4 weeks for processing and results will be sent to our home study agency when ready.
Meanwhile, Erica and I are working on answering home study questionnaires. Lots of background stuff; "what was it like growing up," "how was your relationship with your siblings," "what did you think of your parent's relationship," and lots of future stuff such as "how excited do you think your spouse is about adopting?"
The degree to which prospective adoptive parents are vetted, screened, trained, and prepared is overwhelming at times. We are grateful for the process because it is designed and intended to aid our family's growth and help us to transition as successfully as possible.
Hopefully we will have the paperwork portion of our home study completed before Christmas and we can look at scheduling face-to-face interviews and actual home visits early on in 2019.
